WDCO is pleased to pass on details of a free programme for young people, run by the architects RC/YYC and based at The Edge Youth Hub on the estate. It is called the Woodberry Down Design Studio, and it runs from November 2026 to April 2027.
## Who it is for
The programme is open to young people aged 13 to 19 who are interested in architecture and design. It is described as an opportunity for young Hackney residents, and there is no charge to take part.
## What it involves
Participants will work with RC/YYC and other built environment professionals in a series of creative design workshops, looking at how the public spaces of Woodberry Down might be improved. According to the organisers, the programme is intended to:
– **introduce the built environment sector**, including its different skills, professions and career paths;
– **develop sector-specific skills**, such as site surveying, technical drawing and model-making; and
– **strengthen transferable skills**, namely collaboration, organisation and public speaking.
Members of the Design Studio also have the opportunity to gain a Level 1 Foundation Project Qualification, which, alongside the experience itself, may be of use in building a CV and portfolio.
## Where and when
The workshops begin in November 2026 at **The Edge Youth Hub, 7 Woodberry Grove, Woodberry Down, London N4 1SN**, and continue until April 2027. Session dates and times have not yet been published; anyone interested should ask the organisers when they get in touch.
## How to register interest
Email **roy@rcyyc.uk** to register your interest or to find out more about the programme. Questions about eligibility, the qualification or arrangements for younger participants are best put to the organisers directly.
## Who is behind it
The programme is led by the architects RC/YYC and is funded by Hackney, Notting Hill Genesis and Berkeley Group. If you know a young person who might like to take part and would benefit from the qualification, please pass this on.
