Hi Jackie,

I hope you are well. I’m writing to give an update on the My Place project and to see how the young people we’ve recruited and WDCO can work together.

We recruited 8 young people from Woodberry Down aged 13-17 in July and they have been taking part in training with us since early August. They will be returning from mid-September until March, during which time they will be conducting research among the wider Woodberry Down community on issues that are important to them, including building maintenance and the provision of leisure activities, particularly for young people. Once they have done this work, the aim is for them to present it to the regeneration partners. This will all take place between September – December.

The longer-term aim for the project is to build relationships between the young people and the regeneration partners, so that the young people can find out about things that are happening in Woodberry Down, including future regeneration plans, share their opinions on the regeneration and other local issues affecting them, and so that the views of young people are heard and included when making future decisions.

As a key local stakeholder, we would love for the My Place recruits to meet WDCO members and learn more about the work that you do on behalf of Woodberry Down residents. We believe it would also be a good opportunity for WDCO to engage with younger members of the local community and learn about their experiences of living in Woodberry Down.

Their schedule between now and Christmas has not been finalised but they will be working 2-3 hours a week, usually one evening after school, or on Saturdays. They will also be carrying out some of their research at the Intergen and Hidden River Festivals in September so these could be good opportunities to connect? Rico and I are also at the Redmond Centre Monday-Thursday and available for a chat.

Best wishes,

Zimmie Sutcliffe
